The team will load the items provided, tie on securely with a box or diamond hitch. The pack animal will then be lead from the ground around a cone to establish stability. 2018 RENDEZVOUS PACK SCRAMBLE

RULES: All ages will compete together in the pack scramble. The Pack Scramble will consist of 1 packer and 2 animals with 1 person holding the riding animal or both animals anytime the packer is at the camp station. Packers are to provide their own horses/mules and equipment which includes: saddle, halters, pack saddle, panniers or boxes, mantees and 1 lash rope. The holder is not to help the packer pack or catch the animals. The 2 animals will be let loose in the arena with no halters and no pack equipment on. The packer alone is to catch his/her animals and bring them back to their camp station.

He/She then saddles the animals and packs all the load that is provided by the Rendezvous committee, cover load with a mantee and tie an authentic packer hitch of their choice. When done loading they will be required to get on their mount and take their pack animal around a cone and finish at their camp. Time and the correctness of their load will be judged. Load must be clean (no disqualifications) in order to win. The packer may reload the animal as many times it takes before they cross the finish line. Once the load crosses the finish line the packer or holder must not touch the load. Judges decision will be final!!

Disqualifications are: Incorrect Box or Diamond hitch. Mantee must be spread over top of the animal. Packer does not have to tuck in corners of mantee. If any part of the rope dragging on the ground. The complete load must be tied on and secured on the pack animal at the finish line.

Date and Time April 14, and April 15, at 12pm in Arena 1

We need to get commitments early for the scramble in order to bring adequate loads for everyone to pack. There will be no late entries.

TRAIL CHALLENGE INFORMATION

Welcome to Los Padres Rendezvous committee’s hosting of the Trail Arena Challenge. The members of the Los Padres Rendezvous committee of the Backcountry Horsemen of California are inviting you to join us. This event is being held in the main arena in the Paso Robles Event Center. The scoring, entry categories, judging and obstacles are following the safety guidelines.

We are adding a pack animal category. This includes a team of one rider and one pack animal that will navigate the course that is judged and scored very similar to the course used in the traditional Trail Arena Challenge event. Prizes will be awarded to first through third places in each rider category.

The pack animal element will have only two age groups 8 to 17 and 18 and up. The pack event will be judged in the categories of Novice and Packers. Our goal is to make this a great experience for both the seasoned rider and the beginner.

A few reminders:

When you arrive, you will pick up your packet. In your packet you will find: *Your "Entry Number" Please display on you and your equine. Before you begin your Trail Challenge, be sure you have the following on your horse or on your person: Hoof Pick, Knife (not required for children) water and Halter with Lead rope. *Children must wear approved equestrian helmets
