Check out this link for Richard Waller's SLOCREST Trail and General Meeting for CCCAHA next Tuesday, July 13, 2010. July 13 General Meeting.pdf Atascadero Horsemen's Club has their meeting on July 13, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., at Player's Restaurant in Atascadero. The speaker is Diane Odell, founder and director of The Morningstar Youth Ranch in San Miguel. Posted: July 8, 2010 Volunteer Opportunities
with the Forest Service and other Agencies These projects are still happening, so if interested, please contact Lisa Andresen. Many
members have inquired about volunteer projects being scheduled by the Forest
Service. As of this printing, the
Santa Barbara and Santa Lucia Districts are putting together schedules, and
dates are unconfirmed. There will be a 20 day project at Indian Creek north of
Santa Barbara, which will serve to assist in putting the CCC into the
wilderness for the completion of work projects. The Santa Lucia District plans
to perform work on the Judell Trail. Both
agencies report being affected by the limitations of volunteer efforts.
Mainly, volunteers may only have weekend or short term availability, and
projects may require 10 or more days commitment. Also, the Wranglers are short
on stock and would like to hire an outfitter for certain projects, such as
having hired the Inyo National Forest Packer from Bishop in the past. There
are opportunities for non- Wranglers to bring stock and help with Wrangler
projects. Those interested would need to sign a volunteer agreement. Contact
Lisa Andresen at 453-8629, or lpwranglers@gmail.com The
Volunteer Wilderness Rangers , an interpretive non profit volunteer support
group for the National Forest, are a member group of the Los Padres Forest
Association. Their efforts are funded in part by three stores, located in
Wheeler on Hwy 33, at the Ranger Station on Paradise Road, and in Big Sur. For
more information on this group or the LP Forest Assn, go to lpforest.org, or
contact as for the Wranglers, above. County Parks has been awarded $40,000 to build a new trail system on the Barone Ranch on the Gaviota Coast. West Camino Ceilo Trails Council is building a new network of trails after the burn. For more information on the projects, attend the SB County Trails Council Meeting on 3/16/09 , 7 pm at the Main Library in Santa Barbara, or contact Otis Calef. updated: July 8, 2010
